Excellence in Martial Arts on Display!

Summit students put on quite a show this week for families and staff. They demonstrated the fundamentals and core values of Martial Arts while also entertaining the crowd!

While learning the basics of Tae Kwon Do, they inherently engage in self-awareness and motor skills that can carry over to their daily life. Additionally, the repetition of movement patterns (poomsae) throughout Tae Kwon Do, create bilateral connections in the brain emphasizing the benefits to children with ASD. Similar to these physical benefits, the core values expressed throughout Tae Kwon Do include: courtesy, integrity, self control and perseverance.

The crowd was also entertained with a history lesson on Martial Arts weapons narrated by Farmer John, aka senior, John Marrone. The lively performance featured the students demonstrating the use of farm tools as weapons after traditional weapons had been banned by the Emperor in 1609. Eventually, the tools were used in an underground study of Martial Arts. Special Thanks to our Sensei, Katherine Bailey!
